What is the difference between tempered, annealed & laminated glass?

Although there are many types of glass, these 3 are the most basic

Annealed Glass is single pane and breaks in long cracks.  It is not considered "safety glass" like the other two in this list.  It is commonly used in windows, table tops & picture frames.

Tempered Glass is most commonly recognized by most people as the type that shatters into a million pieces.  It is considered a type of safety glass, as it does not break into large, dangerous pieces.  It is commonly used in doors and windows close to doors.  It is often used in driver through windows, as well as table tops where the glass isn't supported by wood underneath the glass.  Tempered glass is stronger than annealed, unless it is hit hard on the edges.  Shower glass is tempered glass.

Laminated Glass is made of two pieces of glass with a film in between the two glass panes.  It is considered safety glass.  It is also commonly used in doors.  While each piece of glass is easy to break, the laminate film keeps the glass held together.
